Pc Users See No Threat Despite Plagues of Adware and Spyware
Today, no PC is completely safe from being infected by Spyware and Adware. Getting rid of these pesky problems on your computer can be difficult without a strong application in place.
December 31, 2004 -- According to a recent article on IDG News Service (www.idg.net), a survey conducted by Internet service provider America Online found that various forms of snooping programs such as spyware and adware are on eight percent of systems. Despite this fact, over two thirds of these home users still think they are safe from online threats.
The article goes on to say that:
Sixty-three percent of those with pop-up blocking software said they still receive pop-up messages. Around forty percent of those surveyed reported their Web browser's home page or search results being changed without their permission--all classic symptoms of spyware or virus infection.
Spyware and Adware is a software application which advertising banners or pop-ups are displayed while the program is running. Spyware additional feature is that it usually includes code that tracks a user's personal information and passes it on to third parties, without the user's authorization or knowledge.
Chances are your PC is probably infected with adware & spyware if:
- You have downloaded music online
- Your PC is running extremely slow
- You are pestered by those horrible popup ads
In order to keep systems free from these nuisances, a program that can provide monitoring, blocking and removal of these applications should be in place.
No Adware provides software that is constantly updated to identify the latest threats to your PC and your privacy. A free scan is provided at http://www.oida.net/adware
This software scans your system for Spyware, Adware, and dialers and removes them from your PC. Its also customizable allowing users to safely block annoying yes/no boxes asking permission to install adware/spyware, with the click of a button. If an item that exists on their block list attempts to install, the item will be prevented from being installed. When a bookmark is attempted, No Adware will alert users and ask for authorization to add the specific URL to the browser's 'Favorite List'.
Another useful feature that is built into the No Adware application is that it can schedule times when it will automatically scan for possible adware/spyware infiltrations.
After using No Adware, one user stated:
The No Adware scan picked up approx 130 parasites which it dispatched instantly, probably the rubbish after over 3 years of surfing
